Danny Murphy was born in Katherine in the Northern Territory and has been working as a potter since 1980. He is well known for producing exquisite terracotta vessels whose textures are heavily influenced by the sandstone outcrops and escarpments of the Katherine Gorge and the Katherine River corridor. He often fires seaweed onto the surface of his pots to create various colours and textures. 'I draw enormous inspiration from all these timeless elements including the river itself. It’s hot and dusty, rustic, harsh and yet so beautiful. It runs deep in my veins. I was born and raised here, and I have lived here pretty much all my life. I am constantly reminding myself to use all of my senses in this environment to help reflect nature in my works.' Danny Murphy
