Martumili Artists was established by Martu people living in the communities of Parnpajinya (Newman), Jigalong, Parnngurr, Punmu, Kunawarritji, Irrungadjji, and Warralong across the Pilbara. The Martu people are the traditional custodians of over 13 million hectares of land across the Western Desert which is strewn with jila (waterholes), jurnu (soaks), tuwa (sand hills), warla (lakes), and other significant landforms which continue to tell the history and origins of this Country and how it was created during the Jukurrpa (Dreaming).
