Jarlmarra Jiti - Birds with wings

Birds have an infectious quality that is hard to resist. Watching them bathing, squabbling or circling high above the earth, they fascinate and intrigue us. Nyangulya Katie Nalgood would agree. Introduced to art by her late husband Mr Gardiner, they often painted collaboratively. Depicting her beloved birds through a joyful palette, with thick acrylic brushstrokes on canvas, Katie says she simply paints what she sees. “I see them in photographs and from my house. Birds are very colourful – I have to paint what colour they are. This makes me happy.” Painting with heart and soul, Katie’s bird portraits have the ability to remind us of the innocence and beauty in these cheeky creatures. The exhibition runs from January 21 - 18 February
